The tube is a narrow cylindrical tube-shaped container closed at one end.
Typical test tubes have a diameter of 10-20 mm and a length of 50-200 mm. The closed end generally has a hemispherical, less conical or flat shape, and the open end often has a slightly flared lip to facilitate the drip of the liquid from the test tube into another vessel. Some test tubes are provided with a stopper or cap. Sometimes there is a rusty area on the body of the test tube that allows pencil writing for identification. Some test tubes are graduated to measure the volume of liquid content.
